Ruptly's drone was able to get an airborne view of the razed QuikTrip (QT) market building on West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson on Saturday, after the complex was set aflame during protests on Friday evening.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency earlier today, and dually imposed a curfew to begin at midnight (0500 GMT).

Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Ronald S.

Johnson said that the Highway Patrol would enforce the curfew until 5am (1000 GMT).

The announcement follows the deployment of tear gas by security forces in armoured trucks late on Friday to disperse crowds.

Protesters had gathered in front of the QT on the corner of West Florissant Avenue, where they were met by police dressed in MARPAT camouflage, body armour and ballistic helmets.

Heavily-militarised police squads are currently patrolling Ferguson armed with pistols, and short-barrelled 5.56-mm assault rifles with several magazines capable of holding 30 rounds each.

Also deployed are Lenco Bearcat armoured vehicles, capable of carrying up to 10 officers and equipped with M60, 240B and Mark 19 weapons systems.

Racial tensions remain high in Ferguson one week after the fatal shooting of unarmed 18-year-old African-American Michael Brown by a white police officer.

Just three of the Ferguson Police Department's 53 members are African-American, while according to U.S.

Census statistics, nearly 70 percent of Ferguson's 21,000 population are of Afro-American descent.
